I would like to introduce to you to ChasingCuisine.com. It’s my new online magazine that follows my travels discovering the best venues and beverages that I can find. Along with my companion Ruka, we plan to search for the most interesting cuisine, craft cocktails, and microbreweries that each locale offers, then I plan to tell you about what we’ve found.
For those who don’t know me well, I grew up in the Twin Cities of Minnesota and moved to San Francisco, California as an adult. After studying Political Science in my home state and working for politicians, I gave up my desire to become a political leader (YIKES!) and reverted to a job I had while attending the University of Minnesota.
BARTENDING! I was a natural at tending bar. But who would ever guess, that I would come up with the world-famous drink called the Cosmopolitan Cocktail. If you’re not familiar with the story, click the link at the bottom of the page.
I brought my cocktail to a new start in San Francisco in 1979. Here I would get many glimpses of cuisines in an industry about which I knew very little. It turned out, I learned a lot. Soon I discovered that assisting restaurateurs in opening of their restaurants to be my calling in the business. I worked my way through the positions of waiter, bartender, bar manager, beverage consultant, wine manager, maître`d, bookkeeper, and general manager. From each position, I gained a new perspective on what truly made the dining experience joyous.
Here, in these pages, I will use my forty years of experience in the industry, and my desire to travel about America, to find the best food and beverages that are offered to the ravenous public. It is my hope that you will travel along with me with the question in mind, where is he, what is he eating, what is he drinking and what new thing is he going to share this week?

We begin our journey in Coachella Valley in the southern California desert. The valley is surrounded by mountains. The sky is a blue dome that reaches from behind the mountains in the east to the fresh snowy peaks in the west. Today, there is not a cloud in the sky, and the wind has finally died down. It’s the kind of weather that makes living on this planet very sweet.
On these pages, I will write about where we go and how the surroundings have special allure. I will write about what is new in the venues we find, what makes a restaurant good, and what makes you want to go back to a restaurant. Is it the location, the menu, the decor, the chef, the bartender, the wait staff, the cliental, the architecture, the price point, maybe it’s the background music or flowers in the bathrooms? Do you really know? Well, it’s all those things. The fact is you don’t think about it, unless it stands out from the ordinary. Can a restaurant do all those things? Well, the answer is YES, but it seems to be a very difficult thing to do.
But let’s face it, most of the time you’re not looking for joyous, it’s a fuel stop-- and then back to what’s really filling your day. So, what is missing on the list above is time and convenience. And that’s something that I will take in to consideration as I publish these posts. I’ll try not to be long winded and I’ll try to search for what is on the edge in the cuisine scene.
But wait there is a few more thoughts I’d like to share.
I want you to know that I will do my best to find a range of venues to share with you. I’m not going to places that are based on other people’s rants and raves. Nor will I just go to the places with the highest price point, is a matter of fact, I won’t write about the price point at all. I’m just going to do my best to find unique places with good stuff. Along the way, I hope to find some awesome breweries, great cuisine and the best bars. I may even search out a distillery or vineyard along the way. I will, of course, be on the lookout for craft cocktails and I will reach back in history to see what other authors have had to say on the subject at hand.
